On September 21st, we will be hosting our monthly ABK Acadiana public meeting featuring Ben Pierce, Photographer and Executive Director for Swamp Base. Ben's presentation will be titled, "Breaking the Barrier - Diving into Myths Surrounding Swamps," where he will explore common misconceptions about our swamps, uncover the beauty and importance of one of our nation’s most vital ecosystems, and share how he’s working to expand public education and awareness of our natural resources
About our speaker:
A founding member and co-creator of Louisiana Swamp Base, Ben originally established the program as a conservation-based activity during the Evangeline Area Council's Centennial of Scouting celebrations in 2010 and has since led the development and growth of the program as an accredited and official Scouting America high adventure base since 2013.
Growing up in Lafayette, Louisiana, and receiving his degree from LSU in landscape architecture and land planning, Ben has a comprehensive understanding of the value of our natural systems, as well as the numerous benefits Scouts receive when they understand and respectfully recreate in the outdoors. By utilizing Scouting America's extensive reach across the country, Ben strives to use Swamp Base to create a lasting positive impression of swamps on all Scouts and leaders who participate
Ben is also a successful local photographer. Check out his Facebook!
